Tornadoes are violent storms that come from powerful thunderstorms. They appear as a funnel- or cone-shaped cloud with winds that can reach up to 300 miles per hour. They cause damage when they touch down on the ground. They can damage an area one mile wide and 50 miles long.
Question
A tornado with winds at the maximum speed is heading for a town 75 miles away. How much time do the residents have to prepare before the tornado hits their town?
Solution
Tornadoes are violent storms that come from powerful thunderstorms. They appear as a funnel- or cone-shaped cloud with winds that can reach up to 300 miles per hour.
300 miles per hour is equal with 75 miles per x (time)
1 hour = 60 minutes
The time estimate :

So,the time residents have to prepare before the tornado hits their town is 15 minutes
